Oh dear, we've not been very good at writing a blog and keeping up to date!!
We are just about to start lambing again in a couple of weeks and hope that will go well. We have added a porch to Swallows during the winter so it will be better for storing boots, fishing gear and surf boards if you have any. There is also a little window on the side to look down the yard. We have also put a new bathroom in Swallows with a more powerful shower above the bath. We are looking forward to the summer and are hoping for some nice weather again! Kathryn This sheep who had four lambs has reared them all and the lambs are enjoying being outside on the grass and are really growing up. The lambs by the river just kept 'popping' up and there must have been 6 or 7 that ran away when they saw me! It really is a lovely time of the year!!
Kathryn ![]() It seemed to take a while to finish but the kitchen in Swallows is looking good now! Along with the washing machine and tumble dryer, we've added a larger fridge freezer and a dish washer. Hopefully this means you can spend more of your holiday relaxing rather than washing up! The refit wasn't without it's hiccups - a hammer was accidentally dropped on the electric cooker.... Luckily we didn't need to replace the whole cooker, but instead only needed a brand new hob. Look forward to welcoming you here soon! Check out our availability with the link below: Pete ![]() Just installed the washing machine and tumble dryer this spring in Meadows. We have been enjoying some beautiful weather lately and the moorhen has a young chick which lives on the lake. On a recent walk to the river I have seen a white farm duck with a mallard drake several times - waiting to see the offspring!! Daffodils have gone now but there are still several bluebells left in the copse. ![]() We've finished our first batch of lambs, but are expecting more with our younger sheep in the next few weeks. Luckily we didn't have any snow like our fellow farmers in Wales or Scotland, but it has still been very cold for them here on the Devon/Cornwall border. Now it's getting warmer, we're hoping the younger sheep can have their lambs outside in the sunshine! (Disclaimer: This photo was not taken over Easter, it's been very wet today!) We expect we will have lambs for the next few weeks, so please get in touch for a last minute holiday deal on the farm. Pete ![]() We've recently improved our wireless internet connection in Swallows and are waiting for BT to install wireless broadband in Meadows, so free wi-fi will soon be available in both cottages. So bring your laptops and smartphones to research trips and days out whilst you're here or catch up on any TV shows you've missed whilst away. No lambs yet, but the sheep will start in the next couple of weeks. So for a spring break, check our availability below. Pete Happy New Year!
As you can see from the photo, we had a lot of rain over Christmas, but the water has now receded leaving the ground very wet. Not as picturesque as some photos we've taken over the last few Christmases! As promised in the last post here's a photo of the new downstairs bathroom. We think its a big improvement on what was there before and are really pleased with it. Wish you all a very prosperous and happy 2013! Pete ![]() John, who stays in our caravan club site regularly, caught this whopping 15.5lb carp yesterday. You can see more photos of other fishermen in our fishing photo album. In other news, the cattle are now all in the barns away from the cold and wet and Tess is shaping up to be a good farm dog. She's been great at helping to gather the sheep. We're currently refurbishing the downstairs bathroom in Meadows - photos to come soon! Pete ![]() Hope you like our new website and haven't had any problems finding us! We don't want to bore you with technical details but there were a few issues migrating over - but we're happy with the new feel. If you've got any feedback please either comment below or get in contact with us via the contact form on the website or email us - we're keen to hear what you think. As this is our first post, we're not quite sure what we'll write about, but we'll probably just give you an update on what's currently going on at the farm, so please bear with us! With Christmas fast approaching, we're getting ready for winter - you can certainly tell the difference in temperature over the last few days. The last of the cattle will soon be in the barns. We've also been busy cutting back some branches and trees down by the lake and caravan site. Not only does this tidy up some areas, but it'll give some wood to keep us warm during the long winter evenings! You also might have noticed our latest addition - Tess our new sheepdog! Pete |
